Join Chamberlayne's Gifted & Talented teacher (Debbie Beam) and Gifted Identification Coordinator (Lauren Lonnes, School Counselor) for one of two identical information sessions on Monday, October 7, 2024. Mrs. Beam and Mrs. Lonnes will discuss the Gifted Programs referral process and identification process, as well as what Gifted services look like for identified students in HCPS.

The first session is in-person in the Chamberlayne cafeteria from 8:00-8:30 a.m. on Monday, 10/7. A virtual session will also be held Monday, from 12:00-12:30 p.m. To access the virtual session, click this link.

FAQ:

-Any student in grade Kg-5 can be referred for Gifted screening during the referral window, which is October 28 - November 12 this school year.

-There is no "Gifted test" to give your student to see if he/she qualifies. However, if a Kg or 1st grade student is referred, or if your student is in an upper grade but did not attend an HCPS school in 2nd grade (when HCPS students all take the CogAT), a cognitive abilities test may be given as part of the portfolio collection. Other pieces collected for each student include grades, teacher inventory, parent/guardian questionnaire, and observation lesson.

-A student can be referred for Gifted screening once per school year. A student already eligible for Gifted services in HCPS in both areas (ELA and Math) does not need to be re-screened to remain eligible. A student already eligible for Gifted services in HCPS in just ONE area can be referred for screening in the second area.

If you are unable to attend either session but have questions about the Gifted identification process, please reach out to Mrs. Lonnes at LHLonnes@henrico.k12.va.us. The referral form link will be available to families and staff at the beginning of the referral window (October 28).
